Sightseeing in the Cevennes…..
so many things to do & see!
In nature, with the children, sporty and active or enjoying culture and ambience
Le Miracle is an excellent choice for an active and relaxed family holiday in the South of France!
There is so much to do and see here that your holiday will soon feel too short. Never mind, so just return……
Situated in the Cévennes (Gard) in the south of France, close to the Ardèche, you will find everything you need to plan some great excursions to the many tourist (or less tourist) activities. For example, the Gorges de l’Ardèche are half an hour’s drive away and the Pont du Gard is an hour’s drive away.
Take a stroll, relax on a terrace or do some shopping in one of the many charming towns and villages in the South of France
A day trip to a city full of atmosphere is also part of the holidays. Avignon, Orange, Uzès, Nîmes and Montpellier (with its coast and beach) are well worth a visit.
There are also picturesque little towns and villages to discover such as Lussan, Banne, La Garde-Guérin, Barjac or Vézénobres. And we haven’t even mentioned them all.
“Les Plus Belles Villages de France”, there are plenty of them in this region !
Each of these “plus belles” villages has an ancient history, of colonial times, in the mountains or in the countryside. Here, the inhabitants are proud of their beautiful heritage and it is therefore important to preserve the atmosphere of the village. For example, a village cannot have more than 2000 inhabitants and there must be at least two protected monuments to be admired.
Sightseeing in the Cevennes: numerous destinations in the region
An almost impossible mission to enumerate all the highlights. In the info guide that guests receive in advance, we have listed them all for you.
A small selection :
- There are many beautiful caves in the area. The most special is the Grotte Chauvet-2 in Ardèche; cave drawings of unexpected beauty, even older than those of Lascaux! But also the Grotte de la Cocalière or the Grotte de la Salamandre are very beautiful.
- Magnificent castles, including the castle of Montalet is even a few steps away from the Miracle. At the castle of Largentière the knights are organized in summer.
- Of course, the Pont-du-Gard cannot remain unnamed here, this great Roman aqueduct is registered on the UNESCO world heritage list. It is a real must go !
Nature in abundance, of breathtaking beauty in the Cévennes
In terms of scenery you’ve come to the right place, as there are many gorges in the area. The Gorges du Tarn and the Gorges de la Jonte are really beautiful, surrounded by the Causses (high plateaus) so typical of the Cévennes. In the Gorges de la Jonte vultures float above your head while you enjoy the spectacular views.
Where the water flows in the mountain rivers, there are also waterfalls. The Cascades du Sautadet in the Gard are spectacular but also very beautiful are the Cascades de Runes in Lozere.
Even if you are less mobile or using a wheelchair, there is a lot to do and see
Appartment Le Miracle is suitable for people who use a wheelchair or walker.
Not all places are equally accessible for wheelchairs, but cities and villages reasonably suited for wheelchairs are Nîmes, Montpellier and Uzès. Wheelchair hiking is possible on the Véloroutes and Voies Vertes, the old railway tracks which have been made accessible to cyclists, walkers and wheelchair users.
A number of beaches are also wheelchair accessible, such as Mauguio Carnon or Plage l’oasis rouge at Grau du Roi.
There are even some (reasonably) accessible caves.
The lake of Villefort-Plage, with its facilities for disabled, its ramp to the beach and the restaurant, and even its Tiralo (beach wheelchair), is the absolute best.
You can swim in our pool, but also in beautiful rivers or in a lake. Splash!
In the region there are beautiful natural places to swim; in the lake of Villefort or in the small rivers the Cèze, the Luech, the Ganière or the Gardon. With rocks for plunging and waterfalls. We know the most beautiful places and are happy to show you the way.
Art and culture, France has a reputation to uphold
France is proud of its art and culture; here you will find many museums and beautiful cultural sites. From contemporary visual art (Fabre Museum in Montpellier) to a regional museum that tells you more about the region (Silk Museum), there is something for everyone. A number of museums are also great to visit with children.
Dining out is part of your holidays. On the culinary level there is something for everyone’s taste here
It is a part of France; go to a restaurant, enjoy a good glass of local wine. There are many good restaurants in our region, chic or warm, basic or gastronomic.
The gourmet will find in the local markets specialities of cheese (pélardon) and charcuterie, truffles, macaroons, wines, olives, tapenades and olive oils. The Cévennes are rich in their own culinary delights such as chestnut specialities or typical Lozere meat products made from the pig of this region, the Baron des Cévennes.
The Cévennes emerges as a region where wine is ever becoming better and better, come and taste it!
When you hear “Cévennes”, you don’t immediately think of good wines. However, this has to be corrected, because the locally produced wines here are getting better every year and the price/quality ratio is very good. Let yourself be surprised and taste one of these delicious Cévennes wines. We know all the good addresses.
Savouring the local atmosphere and enjoying it among the flea markets, there’s very little more French than that…
France is known for its atmospheric, colourful and lively markets. Each village has its weekly local market with a wide range of fresh produce, soaps, olives, plants and pottery. But “brocantes” (flea markets) are also very popular. We are happy to help you find your way to the most beautiful markets. Of particular interest are the evening markets and art markets that are held in the summer in many towns in the region.
A day of relaxing in the Mediterranean and on the beautiful sandy beaches of the Languedoc region
A day at the seaside, an essential part of a holiday in the south.
It takes about 1½ hour to reach the coast in Montpellier (120 km). Between Palavas and Sète, you can admire the sunset over the Mediterranean in one of the beach bars. Or bring your own chair on the beaches between Carnon and La Grande Motte.
Other beautiful beaches: Plage L’Espiguette in Le Grau du Roi (120 km) and Plage Maguelones in Villeneuve-Lès-Maguelone (120 km, with naturist beach).
Hiking, the activity for which the Cévennes are perfect
The Cévennes offer many opportunities for hiking, and it is not without reason that they are very popular among hiking enthusiasts. You can walk from the front door of Le Miracle, or you can drive a little further into the Cévennes for even more beauty. Walk with a donkey as your travel partner, exploring the Cévennes is a lot of fun, especially for children.
We have a map with over 120 described walks and a number of map-guides available. And… even more practical… we have many gpx format walks to download to your smartphone or on your GPX-tracker.

Families who like to hit a tennis ball; the (free) tennis court is within walking distance. So bring your tennis equipment!
Beautiful golf courses
The golfer can play on the “La Campagne” golf course in Nîmes (ranked among the 5 best in France), in Avignon or on the 9-hole golf course in Uzès.
Take a ride in the beautiful surroundings, by motorbike (or simply by car), in order to see many of its beauties.
We like to explore the area by car or motorbike. There is no lack of beautiful roads. One example is the Corniche des Cévennes with beautiful views of the Cévennes. It is also recommended to take a trip to the Mont Lozère. Or via the Col de Finiels. Either way, you can’t be satisfied with just one trip. We have a lot of information to plan beautiful excursions, as well as a number of gpx tours. Getting lost is impossible and no hassle with maps along the way.

The buzzing of activities, parties and events
During the season, this region is a buzzing place for events and celebrations. From the Star of Bessèges (classic cycling event) in February, to the Antiques and Flea Market in Barjac, to a beer festival with local and artisanal beers or typical festivals in the South of France such as the Whit Sunday Fair in Nîmes or the Ascension Fair.
Can one also enjoy winter sports and the pleasures of the snow in the Cévennes?
The Cévennes are not known as a winter sports destination, but you can have fun here in the snow on a modest scale. In winter, a day in the snow is super fun.
The ski resort of Le Bleymard is about 70 km (1.5 hours drive) from here, at an altitude of 1500m. You will find 7 kilometres of ski runs for all levels and 18 kilometres of cross-country ski runs. Younger children can toboggan on special slopes.
Near Villefort, you will find the winter sports area Mas de la Barque (about 50 km, 1 hour drive), entirely dedicated to cross-country activities, excursions in the snow, sleigh or horse-drawn sleigh rides.
